999 is the emergency telephone number used across the United Kingdom. It connects you to trained operators who can quickly send the help you need.
You should only call 999 if there is a real emergency, where someone is in danger, seriously ill, seriously injured, or a crime or fire needs an immediate response.
Calling 999 when it isn't an emergency can stop someone else from getting help when they really need it.
