📖 What is it?
Finding safe drinking water means knowing where water can be found and, more importantly, how to make sure it is safe to drink.
Although water may look clean, it can sometimes contain tiny germs, bacteria or parasites that can make people very ill.
Learning how to recognise safe water sources is an important outdoor survival skill.
🌍 Where Would You Use It?
You might use this skill when:
🏕️ Camping
🥾 Hiking
🌲 Exploring nature
🚣 Canoeing
🌄 Multi day adventures
🚨 Emergency situations
🤔 Why is it Important?
Your body needs water every day to survive.
Without enough water, you can become dehydrated, making you feel tired, dizzy and unwell.
Knowing how to find and prepare safe drinking water could make a huge difference during an outdoor emergency.
If the internet disappeared tomorrow, knowing where to find safe water and how to make it safer to drink would still be one of the most valuable skills you could have.
⚙️ How Does It Work?
Not all water is safe.
Fast flowing streams are usually cleaner than still ponds, but no natural water should ever be assumed safe to drink.
Boiling water is one of the safest ways to kill harmful germs.
Special water filters and purification tablets can also make water safer.
